During our recent trip to SXSW in Austin, TX, a concert announcement came out of a late night at the San Jac Saloon. We’d had a long day and wasn’t really looking for acts when we wandered upstairs. But while talking with friends, a voice cut through the room that was impossible to ignore. It was an amazing honky-tonk singer...full of the rebellious energy of Miranda Lambert and the clear, beautiful country tone of Shania Twain, with a gritty country-rock edge all her own. Her name’s Hannah Rose Graves, a singer-songwriter from Grand Rapids, MI, of all places, and she had us captivated.
Raised in a musically rich environment by her grandfather, Roger Capen, her sound is a fusion of soul, blues, rock, and country delivered through her incredible voice. Her latest album, 'Medicine,' has earned a nomination for Best Americana Album in 2024 and has been among the top 5 most played albums in Michigan for three consecutive months. With 12 Jammy Award nominations and a win for Best Blues/Soul Album in 2016, her music has resonated across the mitten state. Hannah's performances are known for their energy, often featuring collaborations with West Michigan's finest talent, including Mark Lavengood of Billy Strings, who has played The Opry 8 times.
Hannah will be traveling to The Opry with her full four-piece band next weekend with shows Friday and Saturday. So come on out to support a fellow midwesterner and share a trip along her journey.
